ABOUT HUMBLE HOOVES
The Humble Hooves Story
Humble Hooves is owned and operated by Jason and Tam Merkens at the Merkens’ Family Farm in Cobble Hill, British Columbia. This idyllic family farm has been a lifetime daydream.
Tam fell in love with the horse world as a youth and then rediscovered her passion for horses when she began taking riding lessons as an adult. At the time the family was living in the city and having a farm didn’t seem possible. It was during riding lessons that Tam met the horse who made this whole dream seem possible. Ginger changed everything. In the first few moments, she became the reason, the first glimpse of the possibilities of Humble Hooves; Ginger showed Tam what could be possible when you nurture a relationship between humans and horses.
In the early years Humble Hooves began offering introductory riding lessons with a social-skills component. It has now transformed to a farm that offers a variety of programs which foster an environment experiential learning, while using horses as the teachers, mentors and healers. Tam and Jason, a husband and wife team, are both certified as Equine Learning Facilitators. They operate a variety of equine assisted learning and guided wellness programs that focus on themes such as: leadership, teamwork, communication, self-reflection and so much more.
Humble Hooves is a place where we celebrate the human and horse connection and the possibilities that can develop from this transformative relationship.
